PACE reminds gov’t workers to observe ethical standards

The Negros Occidental Progressive Alliance of Capitol Employees (PACE) reminded its fellow workers in government on Wednesday, August 31, to properly observe decorum and ethical standards.

This is required under Republic Act 6713 otherwise.

known as the Code of Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, PACE president Renelo Lastierre said.

Lastierre issued the reminder following the recent suspension of five employees of the Negros Occidental Office of the Provincial Agriculturist who have been formally charged for grave misconduct.

The five OPA staff made a provincial government vehicle and its driver wait beyond office hours while they engaged in a drinking spree with Victorias government employees at a restaurant in Victorias City, Provincial Legal Officer Alberto Nellas Jr. said earlier.

“As government servants we are to live a modest life and must serve with utmost diligence and efficiency. As long as we are active employees it is therefore required of us to observe at all times rules and regulations promulgated to promote good governance,” Lastierre said.

At the same time, due process of law must always be observed in the investigation of employees to give them ample opportunity to defend themselves, he said.

But PACE, as defender of the workers, does not also tolerate nor allow employees to abuse, he added.*
