
A fire broke out in a commercial building owned by Sagay Star Cable, Star Viewing Network Inc., in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, leaving an estimated P7.5 million in property damage on Saturday afternoon, July 12.
The blaze erupted at around 2:40 p.m. along Quezon Street, Barangay Poblacion 1, and quickly engulfed the entire concrete structure.
The building was owned by a businessman identified as alias “Sherjames”, 58, a resident of Capitol Ville, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.
According to initial reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Sagay, the fire may have been caused by faulty electrical wiring.
The incident was raised to a second alarm, prompting fire brigades from Escalante, Cadiz City (CREATE Fire Volunteers), Lopez Sugar Inc., and Bacolod Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade to assist in containment efforts, records said.
Sagay City Police personnel also responded to the scene to support perimeter security while the Bureau of Fire conducted suppression operations.
The fire was declared under control and eventually extinguished at 5:24 p.m., more than two hours after it began and no injuries were reported.
Fire investigators are conducting a thorough probe to determine the final cause of the fire.*
