The provincial government barred the entry of P5.4 million in poultry and poultry products into Negros Occidental from March 1 to 4, Provincial Veterinarian Renate Decena said Monday, March 7.

The 27,377 kilograms of poultry and poultry products were seized on arrival at the Bacolod Silay Airport, the seaports in Bacolod and Escalante cities and at checkpoints in Kabankalan City and sent back to their points of origin, Decena said.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has ordered a 16-day ban on the entry of live birds and poultry products from all regions in the Philippines until March 15 as a precautionary measure against confirmed bird flu cases in some areas in Luzon.

Meanwhile, Department of Agriculture Regional Director Remelyn Recoter said P36 million has been allocated to Negros Occidental from the DA Quick Response Fund to assist those who lost farm animals during Typhoon “Odette”.*
