Mayor Rowena Lizares and her husband, former mayor Neil Lizares, cut the ribbon to officially open the P350-million Talisay Public Market and Terminal Complex in Brgy. Zone 12-A, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Saturday morning, July 19.
“The new Talisay City Public Market and Terminal Complex proves that our city continues to develop, change, and serve for the better,” Mayor Lizares said.
The new public market was built to provide a cleaner, more organized, and more comfortable space for vendors and consumers, she added.
“With the opening of the new Talisay Public Market, we are also opening up more opportunities and a brighter future for our city,” the mayor said.
She noted that support was provided to assist vendors with the transfer. The original vendors from the old market will receive free rent for one year, the mayor said.
The old Talisay City market will be demolished, and its site will be offered to private developers willing to enter into a partnership with the city government, the mayor said.
Construction of the new market began during the mayoral term of Neil Lizares at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.*
