OWWA providing aid to kin of OFW from NegOr who died on bus home

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is providing assistance to the family of Wilma C. Auza, a 41-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Negros Oriental who died on a bus while on her way home.

Auza, a returning OFW from Kuwait, died on August 4 while on a bus headed for her hometown of Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.

Her death was reportedly caused by cardiac arrest, a statement released on OWWA’s Facebook page on Wednesday, Aug. 6, said.

“OWWA has already spoken to his family and continues to communicate to extend our heartfelt condolences, support, and financial assistance provided for them under existing programs for the welfare of the families left behind by our OFWs,” the statement said.

Auza was not only an OFW, but also a mother, wife, and friend “who steadfastly sacrificed for the future of her family. Her dedication and love are a testament to the resilience and heroism of our Filipino workers abroad.”
“In this time of mourning, we join Wilma Auza’s family in remembering her life and the sacrifices she made for her loved ones,” the OWWA statement also said.

After a series of connecting flights from Kuwait that passed through Japan, Manila, and Cebu, Auza boarded a bus to Dumaguete City and then another to her hometown.

OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan said Auza had just completed her employment contract abroad and was returning to her family.

Initial reports said that fellow passengers noticed Auza vomiting during the trip and that she seemed unwell.

She later settled and fell asleep, but upon reaching the bus terminal, passengers were unable to wake her up and discovered that she was no longer breathing.*with a report from PNA
