Over 10K dengue cases in WV, 20 deaths, task force activated

The Department of Health-Western Visayas has activated the Regional Dengue Task Force, an inter-agency collaboration, as dengue cases continue to rise in the region.

DOH-6, in a press statement Monday, August 12, said 10,188 dengue cases have been recorded in WV this year, which is 114 percent higher than the same period last year.

Twenty dengue deaths have also been recorded, it said.

The activation of the regional task force aims to connect with other government agencies for outbreak preparedness and response strategies.

The DOH-6 has already deployed monitoring teams to clustering of cases and hotspot areas to provide technical assistance on outbreak preparedness and response.

They have also distributed mosquito control commodities to various local government units.

DOH-6 also reminded the public to help combat dengue, especially that the school year has already started, through the “4S Strategy”.

This strategy includes Search and Destroy, Self-Protection Measures, Seek Early Consultation, and Support Fogging and Spraying.*
