
Severe Tropical Storm “Opong” has caused an estimated P2,551,742 in damage to crops, fisheries, and livestock across eight local government units in Negros Occidental, initial reports released Monday, September 29, showed.
The initial damage to rice was P2,415,481, fisheries – P115,000 and livestock – P21,261.
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) reported that the damage to rice, affecting 116.40 hectares and 159 farmers, occurred in four areas:
• Salvador Benedicto: P1,492,509
• Murcia: P606,651
• San Carlos City: P206,140
• Isabela: P110,180
Damage to fishing boats in Calatrava was P115,000, the OPA report also said.
Livestock damage, valued at P21,261, was reported in Bago City, La Carlota City, and Valladolid.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the storm destroyed three houses and eight were damaged in E.B. Magalona and Silay City.*
