
Heavy rains and widespread flooding induced by Severe Tropical Storm “Opong” affected 33,095 residents across 13 towns and cities in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, on Thursday and Friday, September 25 and 26.
The state weather bureau PAGASA lifted Storm Signals No. 1 and 2 over Negros Island Friday night as “Opong” moved toward the West Philippine Sea.
PAGASA said the storm would exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Saturday morning or noon, moving west-northwestward toward northern Vietnam.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported a minor landslide in San Francisco Village, Barangay Nabulao, Sipalay City.
A landslide was also reported in Don Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental Board Member Marxlen dela Cruz said.
One house was also damaged in Silay City and two in EB Magalona, the PDRRMC reported.
The PDRRMC also reported that 31,838 persons were affected by heavy rains and floods in 12 local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental:

There were 2,053 residents displaced inside evacuation centers and 22, 950 outside evacuation centers in the 12 LGUs, the PDRRMC added.
In Bacolod City 255 families (1,257 persons) from Barangays 10, Banago, Cabug, Pahanocoy, and Taculing evacuated to five centers, the Bacolod City Communications Office reported.*
