The Bacolod City General Hospital is expected to open in 2027 as additional funds are set to be allocated by the national government for its completion.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said Monday, July 7, that Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri committed to sourcing more funds to finish the construction of the healthcare facility on a donated land in Barangay Vista Alegre.

“When we checked the project together, Senator Zubiri said he will ask the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Health (DOH) to finalize how much more is needed for its completion,” he said in a press conference.

Zubiri, who conducted an ocular inspection of the hospital site with Gasataya on July 1, said the Bacolod City General Hospital would greatly boost the delivery of healthcare services to the people of Bacolod and Negros Occidental.

“By 2027, we expect it to open and be ready to provide quality medical services to our fellow Bacolodnons and Negrenses,” the senator said in a Facebook post on July 3.

Following the project’s groundbreaking in September 2022, the national government has funded PHP600 million to PHP700 million for its construction as of early 2025.

The four-story main hospital building is being implemented by the DOH-Western Visayas through the city government under the agency’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program, while the DPWH-Western Visayas is constructing the three support buildings.

The 127-bed healthcare facility will have an emergency room, operating theater, intensive care unit, diagnostic laboratory, dental clinic, pharmacy and chapel.

The Bacolod City General Hospital is being established under Republic Act 11564, authored by Gasataya and sponsored by Zubiri in the Senate.

The new hospital is expected to decongest the DOH’s Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional Hospital and other healthcare facilities in the city.*PNA
