The Office of the Civil Defense Negros Island Region (OCD NIR) is continuing to set up tents at the Cabacungan National High School – Masulog Extension grounds for residents displaced by Kanlaon Volcano’s unrest.

The tents are being prepared for the evacuees from Brgy Cabagnaan who are still staying in classrooms, OCD NIR Director, Donato Sermeno III said on Friday, June 20.

The classrooms of all schools should have been cleared of evacuees before June 16, but the DepEd gave a short extension, he said.

The La Castellana National High School – Senior High School recently reported that there are 259 families or 815 persons still staying in classrooms that was previously allowed by DepEd.

At the Junior High School it was also reported that there are 372 families or 1,147 persons staying in classrooms.

Evacuees who are senior citizens, pregnant women and PWDs are also still staying at the La Castellana Elementary school.

Sermeno said there are already 124 OCD tents set up in covered courts in La Castellana and four in La Carlota that are already occupied.*
