It will cost P15,311,398,700 a month to feed a surge in evacuees if Alert Level 4 is raised at Kanlaon Volcano, OCD 6 (Western Visayas) Director Raul Fernandez, Task Force Kanlaon chairman, said on Wednesday, Jan 8.
Under Alert Level 4 residents living in the danger zone that would be expanded to a 10-kilometer radius around the volcano would have to evacuate, Fernandez said.
He said data from the Philippine Statistics Authority shows 29,200 families or 124,053 individuals would be covered by a 10-kilometer radius evacuation.
The P15.3 billion projected cost for the 30-day operation covers food and non-food items, water, facilities to be used, cash assistance to the affected and support for the education of children, the DSWD said.
Kanlaon Volcano is currently under Alert Level 3 and the cost of feeding the evacuees is estimated at P295,366, 354 a month, he said.
Persons estimated to be affected under Alert Level 3 are 18,805, he said.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development reported on Wednesday that the total assistance provided the evacuees has reached P103.6 million since the Dec. 9 Kanlaon eruption.
The standby prepositioned relief stockpile for the Kanlaon evacuees is worth P244.3 million, DSWD data showed.*
