OCD: Infra, crop damage in NIR rises to P670.6M

The damage to crops and infrastructure in the Negros Island Region (NIR) caused by the rains and floods brought on by the southwest monsoon and three recent typhoons has increased to P670.6 million, an Office of Civil Defense (OCD) official said on Thursday, July 31.

OCD NIR Regional Director Donato Sermeno III said the amount increased after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported P484,695,000 in damage to roads, bridges, and flood control systems.

The partial report from the DPWH detailed the damage as follows:
• Roads: P206.2 million
• Bridges: P4 million
• Flood control: P274.4 million

The OCD last week also placed damage to crops in Negros Occidental at P97,265,558 and schools in Negros Oriental at P88,713,000.

Assistance provided to affected residents totaled P32.8 million, with P32.5 million allocated to Negros Occidental and P306,830 to Negros Oriental, Sermeno said.*
