NPA claims responsibility for Calatrava killing

The Roselyn Jean Pelle Command of the New People’s Army-Northern Negros Guerrilla Front claimed responsibility for the killing of a former barangay tanod in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Friday night, June 5.

In a statement dated June 9, the rebel group claimed that the victim, identified as Momarlito Alingasa, was killed at around 7:50 p.m. in Sitio Pison, Brgy. Minautok.

The NPA alleged that the victim was an intelligence asset of the Philippine National Police in Calatrava and the 79th Infantry Battalion.

It also alleged that the victim was involved in illegal drugs and gun-for-hire activities in Calatrava.

The rebel group claimed that a firefight occurred during the incident and that several items were recovered from the victim, including alleged drug paraphernalia, an intelligence identification card, money, a .45 caliber pistol, and a magazine.

Police earlier reported that a man identified as alias “Momar” was shot dead while another person was wounded after four unidentified armed men entered a house in Sitio Peson, Brgy. Minautok on June 5.

Initial investigation by the Calatrava Municipal Police Station showed the victim was inside his residence when the armed men forcibly entered the house.

Police said one of the suspects shot the victim several times, hitting him in the head and other parts of his body, causing his immediate death.

A second victim, alias “Rodel,” 22, a sugarcane laborer, was slightly hit by a bullet on his right toe and was reported in stable condition at the Calatrava Municipal Hospital.

Police said the suspects fled in an unknown direction after the shooting.*
