Notorious foreign fugitive hiding in Bacolod arrested

A foreign fugitive described as a notorious criminal with a history of serious offenses such as murder, attempted murder, extortion and robbery was arrested at Santa Lucia Gardens Subdivision, Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, Monday, July 8, the Bacolod police reported.

Arrested was Joginder Geong, alias Joginder Geyong and Kant Gupta, 40, an alleged leader of an organized crime syndicate, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment for violating arms laws in India, the police said.

The Indian national was also arrested for violation of the Philippine Immigration Law for being an undesirable alien and a fugitive from justice in India.

Geong has been hiding in the Philippines using the fake name Kant Gupta and a fraudulent Nepalese passport, the police said.

He is now under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration.

The Embassy of India in Manila has requested for his arrest and deportation.

There are allegations that Geong is linked to the Khalistani Terrorist Group, a Bureau of Immigration memorandum said.*
