NONECO announces 30-centavo power rate hike for August

Consumers in the coverage area of the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) will see higher electricity bills this month after the cooperative announced a 30-centavo increase in their power rates.

From P12.6454 per kilowatt-hour in July, rates have gone up to P12.9741/kWh this August, NONECO announced Thursday, August 21.

NONECO explained that the P0.3288/kWh increase was mainly due to higher costs in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.

Their records also showed that the generation charge went up by P0.1915/kWh, transmission by P0.0788/kWh, systems loss by P0.0358/kWh, and government charges by P0.0227/kWh.

The cooperative urged its consumers to monitor their electricity use and practice energy conservation as a way to help reduce the impact of the higher cost of power.

Earlier this week, the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC) also announced a 13-centavo increase in their electricity rates, from P11.37/kWh in July to P11.50/kWh in August.

They also attributed the surge to higher WESM prices, which rose from P4.88/kWh to P5.46/kWh, or an increase of P0.58/kWh.

Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) has yet to release its power rates for the month.*
