Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has extended the cancellation of classes at all levels and work in government offices in Bacolod City, except for those who render essential services during disasters, until Wednesday, July 26, because of foul weather brought on by Super Typhoon “Egay”.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson also suspended work at provincial government offices starting noon Tuesday because of the risk of heavy rain and flooding.
Provincial government buses were fielded to take employees home but hospital and rescue personnel remained on duty.
However, work at the provincial government will resume on Wednesday, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.
Mayor Marvin Malacon has also extended the suspension of work in government offices, including national government agencies, in E. B. Magalona until Wednesday.
Mayor Gerry Rojas issued a similar order for Murcia. There will be no work in government offices and classes on Wednesday, he said.
The cities of Talisay, Silay, and La Carlota, and Pulupandan town suspended government work on Tuesday.
Benitez, in Executive Order 34, Series of 2023, said the cancellation of classes and work at government offices was extended because PAGASA has warned that “Egay” will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon which will bring heavy rains and gusty weather conditions in the Visayas, increasing the risks of flooding and rain-induced landslides.
He said there were many flooded barangays in Bacolod City due to the 28.7mm accumulated heavy rainfall from 8 p.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Tuesday.*
