No explosives found after online bomb threat in San Carlos

Authorities found no explosives or suspicious items after conducting security inspections in several establishments in San Carlos City following an alleged bomb threat posted on social media.

Personnel of the San Carlos City Police Station, Philippine Coast Guard San Carlos Canine Unit, and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office inspected the San Carlos City Auditorium, VIAST Outsource Solutions, and Empire One BPO starting at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11.

Police said the operation was launched after they monitored a post in the Facebook group “6127 Marketplace San Carlos City” allegedly threatening to plant bombs in schools and other establishments, including Empire One BPO and an ongoing job fair.

A bomb detection dog from the Coast Guard assisted in checking the identified locations.

Authorities said all three areas were cleared after the inspections yielded negative results.

Police advised employees and management of the establishments to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious persons, unattended packages, or unusual activities.

The San Carlos City Police Station will coordinate with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit to identify the person behind the Facebook account that posted the threat.

Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region Director PBGen. Romano Cardiño said authorities were treating the incident seriously despite the negative findings.

He urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and promptly report suspicious online posts or threats.

Police also warned that those responsible for false bomb threats may face criminal charges.*
