NIR’s most wanted arrested for Silay election day shooting

A 43-year-old man wanted for a violent May 2025 election day shooting in Silay City, Negros Occidental, that left two people dead and eight others injured was arrested on Thursday, May 28.

Police identified the accused as alias “Clar,” a resident of Brgy. Robles, La Castellana, who was also listed as the No. 1 most wanted person at the regional level in the Negros Island Region.

The accused was arrested in Purok Paho, Brgy. Rizal, Silay City, by operatives of the Silay City Police Station.

Authorities said he was arrested by virtue of warrants for six counts of frustrated murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Police said the cases stemmed from the May 12 shooting incident in Silay City during the election period, where the accused and his co-accused were allegedly involved in a confrontation with members of another political group.

The confrontation reportedly escalated into a shooting incident that left two persons dead and eight others injured.

Two body-worn cameras were also used during the operation in compliance with court rules.

Three persons, including alias “Clar” and barangay captain of Lantad in Silay, Arnie Benedicto, were charged in connection with the shooting incident.

Benedicto, who tested positive in the paraffin test and is the alleged primary suspect, is still in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-NIR.

Another suspect, alias “Joseph”, 32, was arrested in April.*
