
There are now 3,016,906 registered voters in the Negros Island Region (NIR) following the Election Registration Board hearing conducted on January 19.
There were also 145,691 voters deactivated in the NIR, the majority for failure to participate in at least two consecutive regular elections, the Commission on Elections reported on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Of the 3,016,906 registered voters female voters make up the majority at 1,536,199 compared to 1,480,707 male voters.
Negros Occidental continues to serve as the region’s primary political stronghold with 1,961,404 regular voters and 649,161 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters across its 32 local government units.
Negros Oriental follows with 973,225 regular voters and 335,063 for the SK, while the province of Siquijor contributes 82,277 regular voters and 27,865 youth participants.
Combined, the region’s youth vote has surpassed the one-million mark, totaling 1,012,089 registered Sangguniang Kabataan voters.
Negros Occidental saw the highest number of voters deactivated at 109,864, followed by 34,019 in Negros Oriental and 1,808 in Siquijor, the Comelec also reported.*
