NIR registers 33,705 voters on day 4, NegOcc topnotcher

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has registered 33,705 new voter applicants in the Negros Island Region (NIR) as of Monday, August 4, NIR Regional Election Director Lionel Marco Castillano said.

The voter registration for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) started on Friday, August 1, and will run until Sunday, August 10.

There were 6,292 who registered on Friday, 9,158 on Saturday, 9,864 on Sunday and 8,391 on Monday, he said.

Of the 8,391 who registered on Monday 4,829 were in Negros Occidental, 3,391 in Negros Oriental and 171 in Siquijor, Castillano said.

He said the registration of voters have had slight problems of machines breaking down that are immediately repaired, and of unscheduled brownouts in Negros Oriental.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he is in favor of the postponement of the barangay elections to November 2026.*
