The Negros Island Region is what the people of Negros want, the process has been respected, Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. said on Thursday, March 14.
Abalos, who was in Victorias City, was reacting to the Senate’s approval of the bill on the creation of the NIR composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
What is important is how it is implemented, a lot of work needs to be done, there will be a mechanism for this, Abalos said.
Victorias Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez said they are hoping President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will be signing the historic NIR bill into law.
“We will wait for the approval of the president,” Acting Negros Occidental Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer said.
With the NIR bill’s approval on third final reading in the Senate it is 98 percent complete, the 2 percent is the signature of the president, Ferrer said.*
