Negros tourism week kicks off on Saturday

The 23rd Negros Occidental Tourism Week with a focus on sustainable and green investments as the provincial government positions Negros as a green island opens at Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City on Saturday, September 16.

Provincial Tourism Officer Cheryl Decena said this year’s provincial Tourism Week theme is “Tourism and Green Investments”, which focuses on sustainability while showcasing “green” components in all the activities of the event that runs until September 23.

She said that they will be adhering to the provincial executive order that bans single-use plastics during the weeklong celebration to be participated in by all local government units of Negros Occidental.

The Provincial Tourism Office has partnered with the Provincial Environment and Management Office to implement the E.O. by discouraging the use of sando bags, plastic straws and stirrers, and PET bottles and plastics during the event.

The opening will be highlighted by a food parade featuring the culinary delights of various LGUs, as well as the opening of Tourism Fair featuring the products of various congressional districts of Negros Occidental.

A photography contest called “Undiscovered Negros”, which will feature photos of sites and locations that are being developed to be sustainable tourist attraction is also being held.

Programs hosted by various districts, colleges, and universities will also be featured during the Tourism Week celebration.

An appreciation night for tourism stakeholders, a tourism quiz for senior high school students and a tour guiding competition for junior high school students and tourist police will also be held.

Decena also said that there will be a special screening of the documentary “Alon” by renowned Negrense director Gabriel Fernandez at the Ayala Mall cinema.

A district showdown will also be highlighted during the closing program of the tourism week on September 23.*
