Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) has tapped Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower), through its Cebu-based subsidiary Therma Visayas Inc., to supply its 20-megawatt (MW) baseload requirement in the next five years.
The move aims to support the growing economic activity and rising demand for electricity in the Negros Island Region.
“The terms we’ve secured are crucial as we continue to help drive economic development. Our customer base grew from around 220,000 to 245,000 in just one year,” Negros Power president and chief executive officer (CEO) Roel Castro said in a news release on Monday.
Negros Power supplies electricity to consumers in the cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Silay and Bago, as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental.
Castro signed the 20-MW power supply agreement with AboitizPower president and CEO Danel Aboitiz at the Negros Power office here on Nov. 13.
AboitizPower bagged the supply contract for Negros Power’s additional baseload requirement in a competitive selection process conducted by the third-party bids and awards committee.
Baseload power refers to the minimum amount of electric power required by the load demand to remain operational at any given time.
“A proper supply strategy ensures we can meet the increasing demand. With this long-term agreement, we can truly welcome the future with reliable service for our communities,” Castro said.
Aboitiz welcomed AboitizPower’s strengthened ties with the Razon-led Primelectric Holdings Inc., the mother company of Negros Power, and Prime Group.
