The Negros Electric and Power Corporation and Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) announced an increase in their power rates by 50 and 26 centavos, respectively, this January.
Negros Power said its January electricity rate is P11.6971 per kilowatt-hour, a 50-centavo increase from December. It attributed the increase to a hike in generation charge by power suppliers at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.
Meanwhile, NOCECO said that its current electricity rate is P14.2216/kWh, P0.2673 higher compared to December.
NOCECO said that despite the decrease in generation rate, there was an increase in transmission charge of P0.4127.kWh by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines due to higher ancillary rates from the reserve market.
NOCECO advised member-consumers to be mindful of their energy consumption to manage their electric bills effectively.
The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative has yet to release its electricity rates for January.*
