To protect local hog raisers from plummeting market rates and stabilize meat prices amid ongoing African Swine Fever (ASF) disruptions, the Provincial Local Price Coordinating Council (PLPCC) of Negros Occidental has passed a resolution recommending minimum suggested buying and retail prices across the province.
The resolution, signed by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, PLPCC chairperson, Thursday, August 13, established floor prices for various swine commodities pursuant to Executive Order No. 20-18 (Series of 2020) and Republic Act No. 7581, or the Price Act.
The Council recommended the following minimum prices:
- Live Hogs – Finisher: ₱165 per kilogram
- Live Hogs – Starter: ₱200 per kilogram
- Culled Sows: ₱100 per kilogram
- Piglets: ₱2,700 per head
- Hog Carcasses: ₱200 per kilogram
- Pork (Retail): ₱270 per kilogram
The measure comes after local producers reported severe price drops following ASF outbreaks across several towns,
According to the Council, the floor prices are designed as temporary market-guidance measures to ensure fair trade between producers, traders, slaughterhouse operators, and vendors while preventing speculative pricing and unfair price undercutting during ASF-related supply disturbances.
Under the resolution, member agencies—including the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, the Provincial Agriculture Office, and the Department of Trade and Industry—along with local government units across the province, will conduct market monitoring and report significant supply or price changes.
The PLPCC noted that the benchmark rates will remain subject to periodic review and may be modified or adjusted as market conditions and the ASF situation evolve.*
