Former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said she brought presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his runningmate Sara Duterte Carpio to Negros Occidental to introduce them to the Negrenses.
Arroyo accompanied them to meetings with Negros Occidental officials and with sugarcane planters at Stonehill Suites in Bacolod City Wednesday, February 23.
“I cannot give them votes, Negros Occidental is made up of very intelligent voters,” she said, adding that she brought them to Negros so they can talk to the people themselves.
She said because Negros Occidental has always made her father, former president Diosdado Macapagal, and her win by a big margin, “my role is to introduce them to our supporters”.
Negros Occidental has a very intelligent population that cannot be dictated upon, she said.
Arroyo said Marcos’ wife, Liza Araneta, is from Bago City in Negros Occidental.
“Negros used to vote for me because I am a daughter-in-law of Negros,” she said, pointing out that her husband Mike’s family is from Binalbagan and Isabela.
“Bongbong is also a son-in-law of Negros”, Arroyo said.
Arroyo was accompanied by former Bacolod councilor Cano Tan whom she described as an old friend.*
