Negros Occidental gets P1.2B in ‘Odette’ aid, funds for 2 badly hit LGUs smallest

The Bureau of the Treasury has downloaded P1.2 billion in assistance for Typhoon Odette victims in Negros Occidental.

The amount allocated by the Bureau of the Treasury for the province increased after a third tranche was added to its initial allocations in December.

However, the utilization of the funds has been delayed because local government units were waiting for the guidelines for its dispersal.

Two badly hit areas, Sipalay City and Hinoba-an, were among the local government units with the smallest allocations.

This was attributed to the local government units’ delayed reporting of the damage in their areas because of lack of communication after the typhoon.

The amount allocated by the Bureau of the Treasury covers three tranches with Kabankalan City getting the largest share at P153,053,210 followed by Himamaylan City with P118,508,054, Binalbagan – P96,996,085, Ilog – P96,495,295;

Downloaded for the Negros Occidental Provincial government is P41,153,745.

The National Housing Authority also allocated P90 million for residents in Negros Occidental whose houses were damaged and destroyed by the typhoon.

Typhoon Odette damaged 158,238 houses and destroyed 51,330 in Negros Occidental, the Office of Civil Defense 6 reported Wednesday, January 5.

Bacolod City also had 8,335 damaged houses and 732 destroyed, the OCD added.
