Negros Occidental Covid-19 cases hit 246 in a day, guv still in self-isolation

The COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental hit a high of 246 in single day, with Bago City registering the most number at 67, on Thursday, January 20, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

Murcia came in second with 32 new cases followed by Silay City with 24, San Carlos City – 17, Calatrava and Binalbagan – 13 each, Talisay City – 12, and Victorias and Sagay cities – 10 each.

Those who had single digit cases on Thursday were Kabankalan and Himamaylan cities with 7 each, La Carlota City – 5, Toboso – 4, Pontevedra, Moises Padilla, Ilog and Cadiz City – 3 each, Hinigaran, Hinoba-an, Escalante City and Cauayan – 2 each, and Sipalay City, Pulupandan, Isabela, EB Magalona and Candoni – 1 each.

Meanwhile, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson who is coughing and appears to have a cold remains in isolation.

Lacson tested negative to two antigen tests but will undergo an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 on Saturday as a precaution, Diaz said.

The governor who has been visiting distant typhoon-hit areas almost daily felt ill in Hinoba-an on Wednesday and was advised by doctors to rest, Diaz said.

Diaz said the Cadiz District Hospital annex is ready to open and will be able to accommodate 90 more COVID-19 patients on top of those at its main building.

An additional 60 personnel (20 nurses, 20 nursing attendants and 20 support staff) have been requested for the annex, Diaz said.*
