Negros Occidental and Bacolod City are set to receive 6,000 more Sinovac vaccines good for 3,000 persons, Dr. Jane Juanico, Department of Health 6 infectious disease section head, said Friday, May 7.

The province and city will receive 3,000 doses each, she said.

These are part of the 38,400 doses allotted for Western Visayas from the 1.5 million doses of government-procured Sinovac vaccines that arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International via a Cebu Pacific flight on Friday.

Iloilo province will receive 15,000 doses, Aklan, Antique and Capiz – 4,480 each, Iloilo City – 2,000 and Guimaras – 1,480, Juanico said.

Juanico said Iloilo province is receiving more vaccines because it has more health care workers listed under the A1 category.

Under the A1 category, Bacolod has received 119 percent of its needs and Negros Occidental – 100 percent, she said.
That means Negros Occidental and Bacolod have doses to proceed to their A2 senior citizens and A3 persons with comorbidities, she added.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the 1.5 doses that arrived Friday will mean 750,000 more individuals will be protected against Covid-19.

National Task Force Against Covid-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said 500,000 more doses of Sinovac are arriving in the coming days and 4.5 million next month.

Two million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines will be delivered from the COVAX facility on Saturday, and the first delivery of US-made Pfizer vaccines, totaling 193,000 doses, are expected on May 11, Galvez said.

Galvez said within this month seven million doses of different brands will be delivered, including the next batch of Sputnik V vaccines by the third week, and another 10 million in June.*with a report from PNA
