The two-day Pfizer bivalent vaccination drive for Negros Occidental health workers, which is another layer of protection against COVID-19, began at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City on Thursday, June 6.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said an initial 553 health workers have qualified.

The Negros Occidental provincial government received 390 vials of the bivalent vaccine. Each vial has six doses that will cover 2,340 health workers, he said.

Hospital health workers will be prioritized, he said.

The vaccines will expire in January 2024 yet, he said.

Health workers eligible for the bivalent vaccines are those who received their second booster shots at least 4 to 6 months ago, Diaz said.

Bivalent vaccines are modified jabs that target both the original and omicron strains of COVID-19.

The bivalent vaccines are not available for the general public yet, Diaz said.*
