Negros aims for herd immunity before end of December, too

Negros Occidental is aiming to hit COVID-19 herd immunity before the end of December, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, said Monday, December 6.

They are keeping up the pace of the recent 3-day national vaccination drive and hope to hit herd immunity by December 15 or before the end of the month, he said.

Negros Occidental needs to vaccinate 1,825,370 or 70 percent of its 2.6 million population to hit herd immunity. It has the biggest population in Region 6.

It has vaccinated 942,759 of its residents or 51.65 percent with one dose, while 477,865 or 26.18 percent have been fully vaccinated, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.

The province needs to vaccinate 882,611 more to hit herd immunity.

Tumimbang said the estimate that the province would hit herd immunity by February next year was before they stepped up their vaccination drive.

BACOLOD

Bacolod City also aims to hit herd immunity before Christmas or before the year ends, Dr. Chris Sorongon, Emergency Operations Center deputy, said Sunday.

Bacolod City that has a total population of 586,715 needs to vaccinate 410,701 residents to hit herd immunity, the DOH said.

It has fully vaccinated 283,107 or 68. 93 percent of its target, while 356, 313 or 86.76 percent have been partially vaccinated, the DOH added.

Bacolod needs to vaccinate 54,388 more residents.

RISK CLASSIFICATION

The DOH said the risk classification of Negros Occidental is “minimal” with its alert level at 27.67 percent.

Bacolod City’s risk classification is “low” with its alert level at 19.05, the DOH also reported.*
