The Negros Association of Chief Executives (Negros ACE) has unanimously passed a resolution supporting the call of Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. for the courtesy resignation of all colonels and generals of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The resolution signed by Negros ACE president, Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, and secretary general, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., on Thursday, January 5, said the call is consistent with their good governance and eradication of illegal drugs advocacy.
Abalos, implementing the mandate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on good governance, called for the courtesy resignation of all colonels and generals of the PNP amid the fears that some high-ranking police officers are allegedly involved in involved in the illegal drug trade.
Filipinos and aliens residing in the country rely on the police force for their safety and security by placing their trust and confidence in the PNP, the resolution of the Negros mayors said.
“To enjoy the benefit of trust and confidence of our constituents, the PNP top officials must lead by example and heed the call of the DILG to show their good faith and commitment to the flag and country by filing their courtesy resignation,” the resolution added.
The Negros ACE places its complete trust and confidence on the Department of the Interior and Local Government and its impartiality, it said.
The Constitution provides that public office is a public trust and that all public officers and employees must, at all times, be accountable to the people, serve them with utmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency, act with patriotism and justice and lead with modest lives, the resolution said.*
