NegOcc road accidents down 25% in 2024

Vehicular accidents in Negros Occidental decreased by 25 percent in 2024, police records on Tuesday, Jan. 28, showed.

Only 906 incidents were recorded last year compared to 1,216 incidents in 2023, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office reported.

“This can be attributed to the intensified enforcement of traffic laws and ordinances as well as information operation on road safety,” Col. Rainerio De Chavez, police provincial director, said in a statement.

Data further showed that vehicular incidents resulting in physical injuries decreased by 29 percent, from 517 in 2023 to only 366 in 2024.

Meanwhile, incidents resulting in damage to properties were down by 28 percent, with only 393 in 2024 compared to 552 incidents in the previous year.

In terms of vehicular incidents resulting in homicide, the figures showed 147 each year in the past two years.

On the other hand, the Bacolod City Police Office recorded a 23.53 percent increase in road accidents in 2024.

Based on the data, 357 incidents were reported last year, higher by 68 from 289 in 2023.*PNA
