NegOcc pig deaths now 10,004, losses P114.2M, prov’l vet says

Pig deaths in Negros Occidental from various illnesses breached the 10,000 mark on Sunday, June 4, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) reported.

The PVO, in a report submitted to Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz, said the pig deaths are now 10,004, or 8.84 percent of the provinces hog population.

The PVO placed the pig deaths’ damage to the Negros Occidental hog industry at P114, 280,250 affecting 1,889 raisers.

Pig deaths from illnesses were also reported in the Sixth District of Negros Occidental for the first time. Ilog town reported 35 pig deaths.

Pigs deaths in the Second District are 356, Third District – 1,154, Fourth District – 8,283 and Fifth – 176, the PVO said.

The areas with the highest number of pig deaths are San Enrique with 2,596, Valladolid – 1,947, Bago City – 1,582 and Pontevedra – 1,023, the PVO added.*
