
The number of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) cases in Negros Occidental has increased by more than 424 percent.
The Provincial Health Office reported on Monday, August 4, that there were 1,327 HFMD cases in Negros Occidental from January 1 to July 19.
This is an increase of 424.51 percent compared to the 253 cases recorded during the same period in 2024.
Bago City had the highest number of cases with 355.
Most of the affected individuals are in the 1 to 10 years old age group.
Dr. Girlie Pinongan, the Provincial Health Officer, reminded the public, especially children, to wash their hands as the first step to prevent the spread of the viral disease.
It is highly contagious. Some of the symptoms are fever and rashes on the hands, feet, and mouth, she said.
The Bacolod City Health Office reported 92 HFMD cases from January 1 to July 27.*
