The P50 million given by the Office of the President will augment the cost of feeding the Kanlaon Volcano evacuees in Negros Occidental, especially if their numbers increase and the evacuation period goes beyond a month, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said on Friday, Dec. 27.

The Office of the President released a P50 million grant to the province on Thursday and they are just waiting for the guidelines on how the funds can be used, he said.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson earlier said the provincial government has enough funds to feed the evacuees in the cities of La Carlota and Bago and the municipality of La Castellana for a month, which will be until mid-January.

Diaz said the provincial government’s community kitchens are feeding 10,000 people, which include evacuees and the staff at the evacuation centers, two meals a day.

The raw materials for the food cost P1 million a day, at P50 per meal, which does not include labor yet, Diaz said.

He said a menu is prepared by the Mambukal resort catering group every day, which is sent out to the community kitchens at the various camps along with the ingredients for cooking the meals.*
