NegOcc dengue deaths 15,cases 301% higher: PHO

The number of dengue related deaths in Negros Occidental this year have increased to 15, the Provincial Health Office reported on Friday, Oct. 25.

The dengue cases in Negros Occidental from January 1 to October 19 were 5,108, the PHO report also said.

The figure this year is 3,837 cases or 301.89 percent higher than in the same period in 2023 that had 1,271 cases.

Bago City still has the highest number of dengue cases at 560, followed by Hinoba-an with 404 cases, San Carlos – 394, Sagay City – 331, Talisay City – 323, Kabankalan City – 321, Cauayan – 289, Cadiz City – 279, Silay City – 276 and Sipalay City – 273.

The report said most of the dengue cases were within the 11 to 20 years old age group.

The PHO continues to appeal to the public to keep their surroundings clean to eliminate breeding places of mosquitoes.

The dengue virus is transmitted by day biting Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.*
