Work in government offices and classes at all levels in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City will resume on Thursday, July 23, but the Office of Civil Defense said more rains could still hit the province.
Malacañang ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in Metro Manila and 37 provinces on Thursday due to the combined effects of the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storms Dante and Emong, but Negros Occidental and Bacolod City were not included on the list.
Local government units outside the listed areas may declare class or work suspensions based on prevailing conditions, Memorandum Circular (MC) 91 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said on Wednesday.
Malacañang had included Negros Occidental in its order suspending classes and work on Wednesday but no heavy rainfall was reported in the province.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said he is leaving it to the mayors to decide on the suspension of work and classes in their localities.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said government work and classes in Bacolod City will resume on Thursday in accordance with MC 91 issued by the Office of the President.
“We will continue to closely monitor the situation and issue further advisories as necessary” he said.
Regional Director Donato Sermeno III of the Office of Civil Defense Negros Island Region said Negros Island is still likely to experience rains with three weather disturbances prevailing.
He cited Tropical Storms Dante and Emong and the southwest monsoon.*
