NegOcc, Bacolod activate help desks for OFWs’ kin amid Middle East hostilities

The Negros Occidental and Bacolod City governments are setting up help desks to assist families of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Middle East starting Monday.

The US and Israel launched a major military operation against Iran on Saturday, which US President Donald Trump said was aimed at degrading Tehran’s military capabilities and neutralizing what Washington described as a nuclear threat.

Iran said its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attacks.

In retaliation, Iran fired drones and missiles toward Israel and struck US military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Sunday that no Filipino casualties have been reported so far following the escalating hostilities

The Negros Occidental provincial government is activating a help desk at the Capitol in Bacolod City on Monday to assist families of OFWs in the Middle East if they cannot contact them, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

Their hotline is 0998-956-9037, he said.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said the Bacolod City government is also opening a dedicated hotline and help desk to assist Bacolod residents with family members, friends and OFWs affected by recent military events.

Those in need of assistance can call 0930-877-5097 or visit the help desks at the Bacolod City Government Center lobby starting Monday, he said.

“In coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers, we are committed to providing guidance, support, and any necessary assistance to ensure the well-being of our fellow Bacolodnons during this difficult time,” Gasataya said.

With millions of overseas Filipino workers based in the Middle East, regional instability remains a key concern for the Philippine government.*
