The Negros Occidental Provincial Athletic Association Meet will kick off at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, on Wednesday, Jan. 29, and will run until Feb.1, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Monday.
Some provincial meet sports events will also be held in other parts of the province, Lacson said.
The Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet will be held in Antique March 1 to 8, he said.
Although Negros Occidental is now part of the Negros Island Region its athletes will still be participating in the WVRAA this year, Lacson said.
Lacson said he hopes the Negros Occidental athletes perform better than last year.
Incentives will be given to the winning athletes, he said.
The Palarong Pambansa is scheduled to be held in Ilocos Norte from April 28 to May 4, he said.
However, there is a reported move to instead hold it after the elections that has to be confirmed, Lacson said.
If the Palarong Pambansa is held at the height of the campaign period attention would be divided, he said.*
