Neg. Occ. Capitol, majority of LGUs halt gov’t work, classes on Tuesday

Acting Negros Occidental Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer has ordered the suspension of work at provincial government offices on Tuesday, August 29, due to inclement weather caused by Typhoon Goring.

Mayors in Negros Occidental towns and cities also suspended classes, and in some areas work in government offices as well, to ensure the safety of residents with the state weather bureau PAGASA reporting more rains expected.

Ferrer, who will he acting governor of Negros Occidental starting Tuesday until Friday, said work at the provincial government offices will be suspended, except for the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Office, hospitals, and all personnel involved in relief and rescue operations.

He said the suspension will ensure the safety of provincial government employees with PAGASA’s warning of heavy rains that could trigger more flooding and landslides.

Classes have also been suspended in the majority of local government units in Negros Occidental on Tuesday.

These areas are Pulupandan, EB Magalona, Isabela, Moises Padilla, Bago City, La Carlota City, Valladolid, Don Salvador Benedicto, Murcia, Silay City, Talisay City, Ilog, Candoni, Escalante City, Calatrava, Candoni, Manapla, Cauayan, Hinoba-an, Victorias City and La Castellana.

In some areas of those areas work at government offices have also been cancelled.*
