
The National Bureau of Investigation apprehended a “fake dentist” in an entrapment operation in Barangay 4, Bacolod City, NBI Bacolod chief Renoir Baldovino said Thursday, March 17.
Arrested was Karen Sujedado Oñas, 41, of Barangay Poblacion, Bago City, who has been practicing dentistry without a license, he said.
She was apprehended after a person posing as a patient needing dental braces went to a house in Barangay 4 to meet her on Wednesday, March 16, Baldovino said.
The fake dentist was charging P8,000 for the braces and was apprehended with her dental paraphernalia, he added.
The NBI conducted an investigation on Oñas after a patient filed a complaint. The patient paid P5,000 for braces that fell out shortly after they were installed, Baldovino said.
They have information she also victimized numerous other persons, he added.
The NBI filed a complaint against her for violation of Republic Act 9484, or an act to regulate the practice of dentistry, dental hygiene and dental technology in the Philippines.
He said an inquest hearing was conducted and her bail was set at P30,000.
Meanwhile, the NBI has arrested a bodyguard of a politician wanted for the physical and sexual abuse of his Overseas Filipino Worker live-in partner, Baldovino said.
The OFW filed complaints against him in Ilog town and Escalante City.
He was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest on Saturday and turned over to the Escalante police on Thursday, Baldovino said.
The bodyguard is from Escalante City and the OFW is from Ilog, he added.*
