Nat’l campaign, ‘Oplan Baklas’ kick off Tuesday – Comelec

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will launch “Oplan Baklas” along with the start of the campaign period for candidates for senator and party-list groups on Tuesday, Feb. 11, Negros Occidental Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said on Monday.

The campaign period for the May 12 polls will be from February 11 to May 10, excluding April 17 (Maundy Thursday) and April 18 (Good Friday).

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia has ordered the removal of all illegal campaign materials of senatorial bets and partylist representatives from public areas that are not designated common poster areas, except those that are on private property, Ananoria said.

Campaign materials should not be placed on trees because it is environmentally unsound, Ananoria said.

Campaign posters must be 2 feet by 3 feet in size and bare the name of the person who paid for them and their address, he added.

Ananoria said the COMELEC is serious about its campaign and cases will be filed.

The “Oplan Baklas” will be supervised by election officers in the towns and cities with the help of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Ananoria said.

The Comelec will send notices to violators and cases will be filed.

The “Oplan Baklas” for campaign materials of candidates for the House of Representatives, and provincial, city, municipal officials will start on March 28, Ananoria said.

The local campaign period will start of March 28, he pointed out.*
