Mt. Kanlaon emitted weak ash starting at 5:25 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8.
“This is ongoing activity that is producing a low plume that is drifting west-southwest,” the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported at 6:20 p.m. Monday.
Alert Level 2 remains in effect for Kanlaon Volcano.
Meanwhile, only about one percent of the hardened volcanic ash from Kanlaon has been cleared from Ibid Creek in Sitio Tamburong, Barangay Biaknabato, La Castellana, John de Asis, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of La Castellana, said.
De Asis expressed gratitude for the help from the Negros Occidental provincial government, which sent backhoes and dump trucks, as well as the Department of Public Works and Highways. However, he noted that the work ahead is still substantial.
Based on the amount of work, the clearing will take a long time unless more help arrives, de Asis said.*
