Motorcycle hits traffic sign, driver dies, passenger injured

A 31-year-old driver  died while his passenger  was injured after his motorcycle hit a traffic signpost along the Granada-Alangilan Road in Bacolod City on Saturday night, Aug. 15.

The Bacolod City Police Office Traffic Enforcement Unit identified the fatality only as “Aico”, 31, of Brgy. Antipolo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

His back rider identified as  “Bert”, 36, of Brgy. Poblacion, San Enrique, sustained minor injuries.

Residents said they heard a loud crash at around 8 p.m. near the entrance of Charito Heights Subdivision in Brgy. Granada and later found the two men injured on the road.

Police investigation showed that Alvario was driving a Suzuki Raider 150 westbound along the Granada-Alangilan Road when he lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating a curved portion of the road.

The motorcycle went over the gutter, struck the post of a traffic sign and fell,  the police said.

Brgy. Granada ambulance personnel responded and brought the injured men for medical treatment.

Alvario was later declared dead, while his back rider survived with injuries.

Police initially attributed the road incident to human error.*
