A total of 154 residents of Barangay Handumanan in Bacolod City recently benefitted from the free medical and surgical mission conducted by the Rotary Club of Bacolod Central in partnership with the Negros Economic Development Foundation.
This is the third time that the club held such activity in the barangay, with the beneficiaries also given free medicines, some of which were donated by the Office of Councilor Claudio “Kalaw” Puentevella and the City Health Office.
The mission served 47 pediatric patients and handled 10 OB-Gyne cases and 89 other illnesses. The health project was led by past Rotary District 3850 Governor Dr. Enigardo Legislador, who also took charge of eight surgical operations.
Legislador was joined by volunteer doctors Von Aposaga, Lovelyn Panerio Reyes, Beverly Elloran-Gulmatico and Harun Demarunsing.
Aside from the Bacolod outreach, the club has also conducted similar missions in Sipalay City following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette and in Binalbagan town which also covered inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility.
The project is part of the areas of focus set by Rotary International this year, that includes peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy and economic and community development.*PR
