There are now seven local government units in Negros Occidental that have been upgraded from red to pink zones, a National African Swine Fever (ASF) Prevention and Control Program report said.
As of August 14 the cities of Kabankalan, San Carlos, Silay, and Victorias, and Hinigaran, La Castellana, and Pulupandan towns were listed as pink zones in the province.
When a city or town is declared a pink zone, they can start their sentineling programs and can locally be declared ASF-free and apply for recognition of active surveillance as a requirement for shipping pigs outside of Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, Sagay City is the only Neg. Occ. LGU that is listed as a yellow zone, joining Buruanga, Aklan in Western Visayas.
From pink zone, an LGU can be upgraded to yellow zone where repopulation and breeding will be allowed after an LGU ordinance.*
