The Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary Office is conducting medical missions for farm animals that have become ill from the ash and odor spewed by Kanlaon Volcano during its eruption on June 3.

The animals are suffering from respiratory and gastro intestinal ailments, Dr. Placeda Lemana, Negros Occidental provincial veterinarian, said Monday, June 10.

Simultaneous medical missions will be conducted at barangays Biak na Bato, Mansalanao and Cabag-an in La Castellana, and Ilijan in Bago City, she said.

Veterinarians and technicians from veterinary offices in other local government units will be joining the medical missions, she said.

Lemana said that drugs and feeds companies are supporting the medical missions with donations.

So far they have not received any reports of animal deaths, she said.*
