Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he is willing to offer a reward for information that could lead to the arrest of the person or persons behind the killing of a Bacolod high school student whose decomposing body was found in a sugarcane field in La Carlota City last week.
Pearl Joy Galve, 15, a Grade 10 student at the Sum-ag National High School, disappeared on July 29, the first day of the opening of classes, and was found dead on Wednesday, August 14.
He will wait for the police investigating team’s report before a reward is offered, Benitez said on Saturday, August 17.
“As I’ve said Bacolod City will extend all support needed by the La Carlota police for this investigation,” he said.
“We are prepared to give all the assistance needed to find a resolution of this case,” he said.
Benitez also reiterated that he has asked City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting to study the possibility of filing cases against those spreading fake news in Bacolod.
Last week fake news of kidnapping attempts in Bacolod were circulating on social media causing undue alarm, he said.*
