Mayor lauds Bago softbelles poised for World Series bid in US

Mayor Marina “Mayette” Javellana-Yao on Tuesday, July 8, lauded the Bago City Softball Team for bringing pride and honor to the city as they prepare to represent the Philippines in the 2025 Senior League Softball World Series in Delaware, USA.

The tournament is scheduled to run from July 28 to August 3.

The Bagonhon softbelles recently secured their berth in the global competition by dominating the Senior League Softball Asia-Pacific and Middle East Regional Tournament held in Indonesia.

The team showcased an impressive performance, remaining undefeated across all six games to clinch the championship title.

The squad is predominantly comprised of students from Ramon Torres National High School (RTNHS).

They are Erica Arnaiz, Icelle Tanaman, Larny Joy Aquino, Mary Antoinette Sicapore, Ann Dyana Buenage, Julie Ann Buenafe, Audrie Sarsona, Biel Coline Tanaman, Nice Lobrido, Casandra Sumatra, Ashley Ortiz, Daniela Bejos, Maria Kimberly Alipato, Froline Manalo, Jean Scharlet Estrada, and Ashevielle Dela Cruz.

A significant number of these athletes were also integral members of the Bago City team that clinched the championship title at the 2023 Junior League Softball World Series in Kirkland, Washington, USA, underscoring their consistent excellence on the international stage.

During their courtesy visit to her office on Tuesday, Javellana-Yao personally congratulated the team and expressed her anticipation for their upcoming games.

“Thank you for the strong heart, grit and passion that you put in sports and may you inspire more Bagonhons to become softball players like you,” she said.

Accompanying the team during their visit were Team Manager and Head Coach Francis Fuentes, Assistant Head of Delegation Leo Dayot, DepEd SGOD Chief Orlando Cezar, RTNHS OIC Principal Mary Jane Araneta, coaches Arcel John Aligno, Alfon John Sumaria, and Vicky Rose Belleza, along with Team Moms Jullyn Benguelo and Ma. Jocelyn Denila.*
